Antithesis of love.

Antithesis of love.
One Last Dance's photo cover from Us The Duo

The changing color of autumn days makes nostalgia more intimate. I caress the passing of time and life's impermanence with this song replaying on my mind's tongue. The lyrics tells the love story of a couple who grew old together and the man died 35 hours after his wife had passed away. The composers and singers, Michael & Carissa Alvarado, are themselves a couple who had come together through their love of music. Almost a decade has passed since their story and creations been an inspiration in my life.

Lyrics of One Last Dance by Us The Duo

Although a romantic thought, this line does not sit well with me:

Thirty-five hours have gone by since your last breath
Memories of dancing with you are all I have left

There is something almost cruel about the view that once a person's physical body is gone, her essence remains only in memories. How does attachment to the lover's corporeal body belong to the story of love? Behind the confession,
all I have left" is a melancholic dependency. I am saddened that such narrative is prevalent in our contemporary dialogue on death and togetherness. A deeper narrative must come and supersede our ancient attachment to the physical plane. The death of a person does not exist when there is the insight of love.

Hello my god and my love at last I am home

No, home does not wait for death to arrive. Home is forever with us to dwell in each present moment. It is unconditional and unwavering, the kindly feeling we have when we touch love, within and without.
